Abstract:
The invention relates to oil-soluble copolymers with an OH number of from 10 to 250 and a molecular weight of from 1000 to 100,000 g/mol, obtained by reacting a copolymer precursor that contains structural units from A) 5 to 80 mole percent of an olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acid or a derivative of such a carboxylic acid, B) 5 to 95 mole percent of an olefinically unsaturated compound with at least one hydrocarbon residue of 6 or more carbon atoms, and optionally C) 0 to 40 mole percent other structural units selected from the group consisting of C1-C6 alkyl(meth)-acrylates, C1-C6 alkyl vinyl esters and C2-C6 olefins with a reagent that must carry at least one OH group. In addition to said OH group, the reagent must contain at last one further functional group that is capable of reacting with the carboxylic acid or the derivative of such a carboxylic acid according to component A). The acid carry-over is adjusted to a value of below 50 mg KOH/g copolymer by adding the reagent.
