Abstract:
An ignition system 1 provided with a spark plug 4 for igniting mixed air introduced into a combustion chamber 51, wherein a superhydrophilic membrane 11 containing superhydrophilic particles 110 and heat-excited catalyst particles 111 is formed on the surface of a structural member 10 of the spark plug that faces the combustion chamber, and the contact angle θW1 with water when the superhydrophilic membrane 11 is not formed and the contact angle θW2 with water when the superhydrophilic membrane 11 is formed satisfy the relationship θW2 <θW1.
