Abstract:
Provided are: an illuminating device with which it is possible to enhance the brightness of illuminating light; and a display device which has such an illuminating device incorporated therein. The illuminating device is provided with a sheet-like diffusion part and a plurality of light sources that are separated from each other. The light sources are arranged on a plane so as to face the diffusion part in a first direction. The diffusion part has: a first section that overlaps the light sources in the first direction; and a second section that does not overlap the light sources in the first direction. Regarding the first-direction thickness of the diffusion part, the second section has a thickness less than that of the first section.
