Abstract:
According to the present invention, an image capturing unit 31 is configured from an image capturing element which includes image output pixels and phase difference detection pixels. A control unit 50 performs a focus control based on image plane phase difference information obtained by using the phase difference detection pixels over a prescribe period, generates focus state change information which indicates whether a focus state change is monotonic, and continues the focus control based on the image plane phase difference information by putting a focus state as an out-of-focus state, when the focus state change information indicates that the focus state change is monotonic. In addition, the control unit switches, for example, a contrast-type autofocus operation from an image plane phase difference autofocus operation by putting the focus state as a low contrast state, when the focus state change is not monotonic. High-speed and high-definition autofocus operation can be performed.
