Abstract:
An image compressing device for encoding an image efficiently without causing apparent color misregistration compresses blocks of luminance component image data and blocks of color difference component data, comprising a resolution determining section (38, 142) which adaptively determines the resolution for each reduced block of the data according to a predetermined criteria and generates resolution information, a data generating section (44) which is connected to the resolution determining section (38, 142) and generates data on each reduced block based on the resolution information, and an encoding section (42, 48A, 48B) which is connected to the resolution determining section (38, 142) and the data generating section (44) and encodes the resolution information and the outputs of the data generating section (44).
