Abstract:
The size of an image block of input image data input in the image block comprising m−pixels × n−pixels is changed, image data of the size−changed image block is compressed, and the compressed image data obtained by the compression is extended to generate restored image data of the image block comprising m−pixels × n−pixels. Based on the intensity of correlation between the restored image data and the input image data, it is determined whether to further change the size of the image block. Until the correlation between the restored image data and the input image data is intensified, the size of the image block is repeatedly changed to compress the image data. The image data of the input image can be compressed at a high compression ratio while maintaining the quality of the restored image.
