Abstract:
[Problem] To provide an image display apparatus that can provide high-quality images to a user and that can reduce the image data transfer rate. [Solution] An image display apparatus comprises a line-of-sight position determination unit, a display area determination unit, an image quality determination unit, a transmission unit, a reception unit, an image generation unit and an image display unit. The display area determination unit partitions a display screen into a plurality of display areas including a first display area, which encompasses the line-of-sight position determined by the line-of-sight position determination unit, and a second display area which is placed outside the first display area. The image quality determination unit determines qualities of images, which are to be displayed in the respective ones of the plurality of display areas as partitioned by the display area determination unit, such that the data transfer rate of the second display area is lower than the data transfer rate of the first display area. The image display unit displays, on the display screen, images generated by the image generation unit from the image data received by the reception unit.
