An image display device is provided with: a frame that is wearable on the head of a user; a light source that is able to emit red light, green light, blue light and near-infrared light to a display part in a time sharing manner, the light source emitting the red light, the green light, the blue light and the near-infrared light such that an object image visually recognizable by the user is formed by the red light, the green light and the blue light, and a pattern image visually unrecognizable by the user is formed by the near-infrared light; the transmission-type display part which is disposed in a position facing an eye of the user wearing the frame and is able to reflect and emit to the eye of the user the red light, the green light, the blue light and the near-infrared light emitted from the light source, the user being able to visually recognize the surroundings thereof through the display part; a near-infrared light camera that captures an image including a retina image that is the pattern image projected onto the retina of the eye of the user wearing the frame; and a control unit that detects the behavior of the eye on the basis of the retina image within the captured image captured by the near-infrared light camera.
