Abstract:
A light emitting surface of a light source unit (11) is divided into a plurality of regions (11a to 11c), and the amount of light emitted by the light emitting surface increases toward the upper regions. Image light generated by the light source unit (11) and a display element (12) is incident onto a collimating optical system (13), parallelized, and introduced into a light guide (10). The image light is completely reflected by an incident side reflection surface (101) inside a substrate (100) of the light guide (10) so as to reach a plurality of emission side reflection surfaces (102a to 102c) serving as beam splitters. A portion of the image light is reflected by each of the plurality of emission side reflection surfaces (102a to 102c) and reaches an eye E of an observer. Although the amount of the image light is attenuated by each pass through the emission side reflection surfaces (102a to 102c), the light emitted from above on the screen surface of the display element (12) is greater in amount than the light emitted from below, and therefore unevenness in the brightness of an image formed by the image light reflected by the emission side reflection surfaces (102a to 102c) is almost eliminated.
