Abstract:
In intra-frame prediction (intra prediction) of an image encoding device based on the H.264/AVC standard, N (where N is a natural number of 2 or higher) thinned images are created, the Nth thinned image is processed in order from the first thinned image, and in the course of generating predicted pixels for intra-frame prediction of the pixels of an ith (i=2,...,N) thinned image, the pixels of an ith-1 thinned image from the pixels of the first thinned image are used as reference pixels. At this time, when the pixels of the ith-1 thinned image from the pixels of the first thinned image are in the vicinity of the predicted pixels, the predicted pixels for the pixels of the ith thinned image generate the pixels of the i-1th thinned image from the pixels of the first thinned image, which are in the vicinity of the predicted pixels as reference pixels. Prediction accuracy and encoding efficiency in intra-frame prediction (intra prediction) can thus be improved.
