Abstract:
An image encoding method including: a conversion step (S601) that generates a processing unit for a frequency range by frequency converting image data; a binarisation step (S602) that generates a binary signal by binarising coefficients included in the processing unit; a context determination step (S603) that determines that the context for the binary signal is one or more contexts common to a plurality of coefficients included in a segment containing binarised coefficients, said segment being one of the segments among a plurality of segments obtained by dividing the processing unit; a binary arithmetic encoding step (S604) that binary arithmetically encodes the binary signal according to the probability information for the determined contexts; and an update step (S605) that updates the probability information for the determined contexts on the basis of the binary signal.
