Abstract:
In the present invention, a motion vector detection unit (12) detects a motion vector (V1) of an input image (X(n)). In a two-dimensional display mode, the input image (X(n)) is output as an original image, and an image generation unit (18) generates an interpolated image (X(n+0.5)) on the basis of an interpolation vector (V2) based on the motion vector (V1). In a three-dimensional display mode, the input image (X(n)) is output as a left-eye image (L(n)), depth information (DP) of the input image (X(n)) is inferred on the basis of the motion vector (V1), and the image generation unit (18) generates a right-eye image (R(n+0.5)) on the basis of the sum of the interpolation vector (V2) and a parallax vector (V3) based on the depth information (DP). Frame rate conversion and three-dimensional conversion share the motion vector detection unit, frame memory, and image generation unit, and the right-eye image is generated at the same position on the time axis as the interpolated image. As a result, the amount of circuitry is reduced, and the image quality during video display is improved.
