Disclosed are an image processing device, method, and program, which enable to acquire information for identifying the area of a subject on an image more easily and quickly. A brightness information extraction unit (21) and a motion information extraction unit (25) extract predetermined information from an input image to generate information maps indicating the amount of features that the area of the subject on the input image has. Furthermore, the brightness information extraction unit (21) and the motion information extraction unit (25) subtract the average value of the values of the pixels of the entire generated information maps from the value of each of the pixels of the information maps to normalize the information maps. Thus, the information maps can be normalized and a noise can be eliminated by easier processing in comparison with the case in which the information maps are normalized using a DOG filter. A subject map generating unit (26) combines each of the information maps linearly to generate a subject map indicating the area-likeness of the subject in each of the areas of the input image. The present invention is applicable to an image processing device.
