Abstract:
Provided are a device and a method for generating a down-converted image with no major degradation in the contrast or texture information of the original image. The present invention includes: an image analysis unit that receives input of an image to be down-converted, and generates adjacent pixel difference information to be used in selecting pixels to be output to a down-converted image; and an output image generation unit that selects a pixel pair, which are adjacent pixels to be used in a down-converted image, on the basis of the adjacent pixel difference information, and that generates a down-converted image by executing pixel value adjustment of the selected pixel pair. The image analysis unit calculates the difference of adjacent pixel pairs of process block constituent pixels, and generates the results of sorting in order starting from the pixel pairs with the greatest difference. On the basis of the sorting results, the output image generation unit selects pixel pairs to be used in the down-converted image in order starting from the pixel pairs with the greatest difference value.
