Abstract:

Compressed image data with different resolutions stored in a hard disk drive (50) are divided into blocks with an almost constant data size. It is confirmed whether a necessary block is stored in a main memory (60) at predetermined time intervals, and the necessary block is loaded into the main memory (60) when not stored (S10). Out of the loaded compressed image data, data relating to the image of an area needed for display or the image of an area expected to be needed therefor is decoded and stored in a buffer memory (70) (S12). The image of a display area (68) of an image stored in a buffer area (72) that is a buffer for display is drawn in a frame memory (90) (S14). Switching between the buffer for display and a buffer for decoding is performed according to the timing at which decoding is completed and the amount of change of the display area (68) (S16).
