Abstract:
The disclosed image processing device has: a pixel selection unit that selects pixels of interest from an image obtained by imaging bodily tissue; a contrast feature-quantity computation unit that computes, as contrast feature quantities for the pixels of interest, values pertaining to the amounts of contrast variation in local regions that include the pixels of interest and pixels near the pixels of interest; a shape feature-quantity computation unit that computes, as shape feature quantities for the pixels of interest, values indicating indices for whether or not the local regions contain structures having a prescribed shape; and a region extraction unit. On the basis of the computed contrast feature quantities and shape feature quantities, the region extraction unit extracts, from the image, candidate regions that are conjectured to contain structures having the prescribed shape.
