Embodiments of the present application relates to the technical field of image processing, and provides an image processing method and apparatus, capable of resolving the problems of image delay and flickering. The method comprises: obtaining a reference value of a target parameter of a previous adjacent frame of an image frame to be processed, the target parameter being used for representing a displayed content performance indicator of an image frame; according to a pixel value of an obtained image frame, calculating a statistical value of the target parameter of the image frame to be processed; calculating an absolute value of the difference between the reference value and the statistical value; according to the absolute value, calculating an update coefficient using a hyperbolic tangent function; according to the update coefficient, the reference value, and the statistical value, calculating an updated statistical value of the target parameter of the image frame to be processed using a time-domain filter function; according to the updated statistical value, calculating a display adaptation parameter of the image frame to be processed, the display adaptation parameter being used for adjusting the dynamic range and color of the image frame to be processed; and according to the display adaptation parameter, adjusting the image frame to be processed.
