This image processing method is provided with: an image acquiring step (step S201) of acquiring a plurality of original images, in which the location of the focal point for each image is made to differ in a direction along the image capturing direction; an edge intensity calculation step (S202) of calculating edge intensities of the pixels forming the original images, for each of the plurality of original images; a pixel selecting step (S203 to S205) of selecting the pixel having the highest edge intensity, from among the pixels corresponding to the same location in the plurality of original images; and an image synthesizing step (S206 to S210) of identifying, from among the selected pixels, outline pixels corresponding to the outline of an object, and creating a synthesized image by arranging, in a region in which the position of the outline of said region is set to the position of the identified outline pixels, pixels extracted from the location corresponding to said region, from any one of the original images. The pixels that are arranged in one region enclosed by an outline are the pixels extracted from the original image in which said region contains the largest number of pixels selected in the pixel selecting step.
