Provided are an imaging device, an imaging method, and a program that make it possible, even in a case where the horizontal line of an electronic level has disappeared, to cause a display unit to display a reference line for capturing images in the same composition and to thereby acquire captured images in that same composition easily and quickly. An imaging device (10) comprises: a display unit (liquid crystal monitor) (30); an elevation angle detection unit (57); and an electronic level (55) that displays a first reference line indicating horizontal alignment superimposed onto a live-view image if the elevation angle falls in a first range. An image processing unit (24) acquires a first captured image if the elevation angle falls in a second range that is different from the first range, detects the edges of a reference object in the first captured image, and then generates a second reference line based on the detected edges. If the elevation angle falls in the second range, the display unit is made to display the second reference line.
