The present disclosure pertains to: an imaging device that enables a reconstructed image to be made high resolution, in lens-less imaging; and an imaging device operation method. Used, as a mask that is disposed in front of an imaging element and that applies modulation to incident light, is a mask constituted by a pattern defined by non-binary URA. The present disclosure can be applied to a lens-less camera.
