Abstract:
The present invention reduces pixel size. A first semiconductor chip is provided with a pixel circuit that has a photoelectric conversion unit for performing photoelectric conversion of incident light, a charge-holding unit for holding a charge generated by the photoelectric conversion, and a reset unit for resetting the charge-holding unit, and that outputs an analog image signal that corresponds to the charge held by the charge-holding unit. A second semiconductor chip is provided with a comparison unit for comparing the analog image signal and a reference signal the voltage of which varies at a prescribed ratio over time, and a conversion unit for converting the analog image signal into a digital image signal on the basis of the result of the comparison, the second semiconductor chip being laminated on the first semiconductor chip. An image signal line transmits the analog image signal outputted from the pixel circuit to the comparison unit via a coupling capacitor and a connection part disposed between the first semiconductor chip and the second semiconductor chip. At least one of the comparison unit and the conversion unit is disposed at a position that overlaps the pixel circuit in plan view.
