Abstract:
The present technology relates to an imaging element and an electronic device that make it possible to expand dynamic range. The present invention comprises: a first photoelectric conversion unit that is provided to a semiconductor substrate and generates a charge corresponding to the amount of light; a second photoelectric conversion unit that has a smaller light-receiving area than the first photoelectric conversion unit; a first inter-pixel separation section surrounding a unit pixel including the first photoelectric conversion unit and the second photoelectric conversion unit; and a second inter-pixel separation section that is provided between the first photoelectric conversion unit and the second photoelectric conversion unit. The first inter-pixel separation section and the second inter-pixel separation section are configured from trenches passing through the semiconductor substrate. The present technology is applicable to an imaging element having large pixels and small pixels.
