Abstract:
An imaging system performs detection and processing of a target object in a way
corresponding to traveling conditions of a vehicle, thereby appropriately
detecting the target object. The imaging system captures an image around the
vehicle by using a camera and detects a target object in the captured image by pattern
matching. When the vehicle speed is higher than a predetermined level, the pattern
matching is performed starting in a region farther back in the captured image
than a region in the case where the vehicle speed is lower than or equal to the predetermined
level. This allows the imaging system to quickly detect a faraway target object
when the vehicle speed is increased. The imaging system can appropriately detect
a target object in response to vehicle speed when the object has a higher priority
for detection in driving of the vehicle.
