An impulse wireless communication apparatus comprises a detecting part for producing a detected signal; a switching part responsive to an external control signal to select one of a received signal and the detected signal and output it as a signal to be demodulated; a reference waveform producing part for producing, in synchronism with the to-be-demodulated signal, a reference waveform signal having a different waveform in accordance with the external control signal; a demodulating part responsive to the reference waveform signal for producing a demodulated signal from the to-be-demodulated signal; and a decoding part for decoding the received data from the demodulated signal. This impulse wireless communication apparatus performs the switching, in accordance with a status of reception synchronization, with the to-be-demodulated signal and the reference waveform signal cooperating with each other. This can reduce the tendency of being pulled into the correlative position of a lower power and shorten the synchronization pull-in time.
