Abstract:
An information code generation device (2) generates a free area (110) inside the code area of an information code (110) on paper or other medium at a position other than where specific pattern areas (104) are located, said free area (110) being an area where data to be decoded is not recorded by cells (102). The free area is of a predetermined size larger than the size of a single cell. The information code generation device determines the shape of the free area using either a method which selects from among a plurality of candidate shapes which have been previously prepared and/or a method which sets the shape to one in accordance with shape designation information which has been input from outside with respect to the information code generation device.
