Abstract:
Disclosed are an information processing device and character input method which enable the high speed input of characters on a touch panel. A mobile phone terminal (information processing device) (1) has: a touch panel (2) which detects operations carried out on the surface thereof; and a main control unit (10) which displays a plurality of buttons on the touch panel (2). When the touch panel (2) detects an operation in which contact is initialised at a first position on the surface of the touch panel (2) and the contact is discontinued at a second position of the touch panel (2), the main control unit (10) receives a character string as input, said character string corresponding to the buttons which are displayed along the trail which connects each location in which contact was detected from the initialisation of contact at the first position to the discontinuation of contact at the second position.
