Abstract:
The present disclosure pertains to an information processing device and a method that enable easier control of the information volume of point cloud data. The invention includes: forming a reference structure of geometric data in point cloud encoding, the reference structure being hierarchized by groups obtained by sorting points of a point cloud expressing a three-dimensionally shaped object as a collection of points; deriving a geometric data prediction value for each of the points on the basis of the formed reference structure; deriving a prediction residual, which is the difference between the geometric data and the prediction value; and encoding the derived geometric data prediction residual of each of the points. The present disclosure can be applied to, for example, an information processing device, an image processing device, an encoding device, a decoding device, an electronic apparatus, an information processing method, a program or the like.
