Abstract:
Provided are an information reading device and a method for controlling the same, with which it is possible to accurately determine that an information recording medium has been set in a placement state suitable for reading and to efficiently perform the reading of information. An information reading device 1: detects the placement of an information recording medium 2 when it is determined that, in captured image data obtained by imaging a glass plate 3 using an imaging element 8, the brightness of image data 3GC (or 3GD) from among image data 3GC, 3GD in each of a first region 3C for sub-determination and a second region 3D for sub-determination that are set at an end part 3Ey on the rear side in the longitudinal direction of the glass plate 3 is greater than a reference value by an amount equal to or greater than a threshold value; and initiates a process of reading information from the information recording medium 2 when it is determined, on the basis of a difference between image data 3GC (or 3GD) newly acquired after this detection and image data 3GC (or 3GD) acquired immediately before said image data 3GC (or 3GD), that the position of the information recording medium 2 is being maintained.
