Abstract:
An instrument panel for an automobile consisting of a skin material bonded onto a thermoplastic resin core material, obtained by supplying said skin material (6) between a pair of male and female molds, and then effecting press molding after or while supplying a molten-state thermoplastic resin between said skin material (6) and said male or female mold, wherein there are provided in the surface of said instrument panel one or more portions (8) where said thermoplastic resin core material (7) is exposed, wherein the end surface of said skin material at the boundary portion between the skin material end portion surrounding said thermoplastic resin core material exposed portions (8) and the exposed core material is imbedded into the exposed core resin surface and secured thereat, and wherein one or more through holes (10) penetrating a core material layer are formed in said core material exposed portion. In the instrument panel so formed, not only the resin core material (7) and the skin material (6) are integrally, strongly joined together, but also no separate components forming an opening are needed. Moreover, the end surface of the skin material (6) surrounding the opening portion is beautifully finished and thus the instrument panel provides a beautiful appearance.
