Abstract:
Provided is an insulated electrical wire with which it is possible to enhance the flame retardance of the insulated electrical wire using a method other than increasing the flame retardant content of an insulation coating. An insulated electrical wire having an electrical wire conductor and an insulation coating composed of a resin composition coating the outer periphery of the electrical wire conductor. The cross-sectional area ratio S defined as the ratio S2/S1 of the cross-sectional area S2 of the insulation coating relative to the conductor cross-sectional area S1, and the oxygen index OI of the resin composition constituting the insulation coating, satisfy the relationship S ≤ OI - 17.2.
