An intaglio printing machine provided with a plate cylinder (14), a wiping roller (19), an impression cylinder (13), and ink devices (17) for directly or indirectly supplying ink (I) from ink fountain devices (25) to the plate cylinder (14), and in which the ink devices (17) are provided with an ink fountain device (25) equipped with: a fountain roller (26); a fountain roller-driving motor (42); an ink fountain (30) for storing ink (I); a fountain key (33), which is supported on the front end of the ink fountain (30) so as to move freely and is for adjusting the gap (G) between the ink fountain (30) and the fountain roller (26); and a fountain key-adjusting motor (43) for adjusting amount of movement of the fountain key (33). The intaglio printing machine is provided with a control device (40) for controlling the fountain key-adjusting motor (43) and fountain roller-driving motor (42) so that prior to printing on a sheet (W), the fountain key (33) is closed and the fountain roller (26) is rotated.
