Provided is an intake apparatus (10) of an engine (1), the intake apparatus (10) being provided with: a first intake passage (11) which supplies fresh air to the inside of a cylinder (2); a second intake passage (12) which is arranged side by side with the first intake passage (11) and supplies fresh air into the inside of the cylinder (2); a first intake valve (13) which, at an opening portion of the first intake passage (11), opens and closes the first intake passage (11); a second intake valve (14) which, at an opening portion of the second intake passage (12), opens and closes the second intake passage (12); and a variable valve actuation mechanism (17) which controls opening and closing motion of the second intake valve. Further, in the intake apparatus (10) of the engine (1), the timing to open the first intake valve (13) of the intake apparatus (10) is advanced with respect to the top dead center, and a period when the valve lift amounts of the respective first and second intake valves (13 and 14) are different from each other with the valve lift amount of the first intake valve (13) being larger than that of the second intake valve (14) is provided in an intake stroke.
