Abstract:
This internal combustion engine is provided with a cam chain 63 which is wound between a drive sprocket 45 and a cam sprocket 62 and which transmits the motor force of a crankshaft 40 to a camshaft 61; a guide wheel 65 which is provided inside the cam chain 63 and between the camshaft 61 and the crank shaft 40 and which contacts the cam chain 63; and a cam chain lifter 70 which is outside of the cam chain 63, between the guide wheel 65 and the crankshaft 40 and which abuts the cam chain 63 from the outside of the cam chain 63 and adds tension to the cam chain 63. Between the guide wheel 65 and the cam sprocket 62, a cam chain guide 80 is provided which contacts the cam chain 63 from outside of the cam chain 63 and guides the cam chain 63. This makes it easy to maintain the state in which the cam chain is in contact with the guide wheel, reduces percussive noise of the cam chain contacting other members by suppressing vertical or horizontal vibration of the cam chain during operation of the internal combustion engine, and improves durability of the guide wheel by keeping the guide wheel from being scraped.
