Abstract:
An internal combustion engine (23) includes: a crankcase (31) which defines a crank chamber (43); a crankshaft (32) which has a crank accommodated in the crank chamber (43) and is rotatably supported by the crankcase (31); a cylinder block (33) which is coupled to the crankcase (31) and defines a plurality of horizontally opposed cylinders; a detection member (61) which rotates integrally with the crankshaft (32); and a detection sensor (62) which penetrates the crankcase (31) from the upper surface of the crankcase (31), faces the trajectory of the detection member (61), and generates a pulse signal according to the movement of the detection member (61). An arrangement structure of a detection sensor capable of detecting the angular velocity of a crankshaft with high accuracy in a so-called horizontally opposed type internal combustion engine is thereby provided.
