Abstract:
Provided is an internal combustion engine that is made more compact in a vehicle width direction, has a reduced number of components, and can lubricate a shaft of an auxiliary machine. An internal combustion engine having: an engine-side drive shaft 64 that is rotatably supported by an internal combustion engine body 40, and rotates due to a rotational torque produced by the internal combustion engine; an auxiliary machine 100; an auxiliary machine housing 101 that is attached to the internal combustion engine body 40; an auxiliary machine body 102 that is supported by the auxiliary machine housing 101; and an auxiliary machine drive shaft 114 that is rotatably supported within the auxiliary machine housing 101 so as to be coaxial with the engine-side drive shaft 64, and drives the auxiliary machine body 102, wherein interior sections of the engine-side drive shaft 64 and the auxiliary machine drive shaft 114 are hollow, a hollow section 64a on the engine-side drive shaft side and a hollow section 114a on the auxiliary machine drive shaft side are in communication, and the hollow sections 64a, 114a are structured as oil passages.
