Abstract:
Provided is an internal combustion engine that can synchronize a fuel injection timing with an operating cycle of an internal combustion engine body with high precision. The internal combustion engine comprises: a camshaft 94 that is supported by an internal combustion engine body 70, and rotates at 1/2 of a rotation generated by the internal combustion engine body 70; a pump shaft 114 that integrally rotates with the camshaft 94, and drives a high-pressure fuel pump 100 for cylinder injection. A rotational speed detection device 87 that detects a rotational speed of the camshaft 94 is also provided, and is provided at a side opposite the high-pressure fuel pump 100 with respect to a virtual line orthogonal to the camshaft 94.
