Abstract:
The present invention provides an isotropic granular thin film which has a high sensitivity to external magnetic fields when linearly polarized light is incident thereupon from the normal direction of a magnetic thin film. This isotropic granular thin film 1 is obtained by dispersing ferromagnetic nanoparticles 3 in a dielectric matrix 2; the ferromagnetic nanoparticles 3 are formed of Co; the average particle diameter of the ferromagnetic nanoparticles 3 is 5.0 nm or more; the particle volume concentration of the ferromagnetic nanoparticles 3 is 1 vol% to 20 vol%; and the magnetic dipole interaction energy of the ferromagnetic nanoparticles 3 is 4.6 E-28J to 2.0 E-26J.
