Abstract:
A laminated-type wave plate is provided which comprises a first λ/2 plate, a second λ/2 plate and a λ/4 plate laminated in that order, wherein, defining nx as the refractive index in the in-plane slow axis direction, ny as the refractive index in-plane in a direction orthogonal to nx, and nz as the refractive index in the direction orthogonal to nx and ny, at least one of the first λ/2 plate and the second λ/2 plate satisfies nz ≒ nx > ny, the angle formed between the slow axis of the first λ/2 plate and the slow axis of the second λ/2 plate is in the range 10°-40° and the angle formed between the slow axis of the first λ/2 plate and the slow axis the λ/4 plate is in the range 70°-110°. This laminated-type wave plate exhibits reverse wavelength dispersion in a wide viewing angle.
