Abstract:
The present invention provides lanthanoid-containing inorganic material microparticles which undergo a reduced quantity of energy flow and therefore can achieve high luminous efficiency when the wavelength of light is converted toward a shorter wavelength side. The present invention also addresses the problem of providing: a wavelength-converting ink which can keep the luminous intensity thereof at a high level for a long period upon the conversion of a wavelength and which enables the formation of a printed pattern having high water repellency and excellent retention performance; a coated article provided with the wavelength-converting ink; and a determination apparatus. The present invention provides lanthanoid-containing inorganic material microparticles having a function of converting the wavelength of light toward a shorter wavelength side, wherein each of the microparticles comprises a core particle and a shell layer, the core particle contains a lanthanoid element capable of absorbing light and a lanthanoid element capable of emitting light, the shell layer has at least an outer shell, the ratio of the total amount of the lanthanoid element capable of absorbing light and the lanthanoid element capable of emitting light relative to the amount of rare earth elements contained in the outer shell is 2 mol% or less, the thickness of the outer shell is 2 to 20 nm, and the contacting face between the core particle and the shell layer has no interface and is continuous.
