Abstract:
Provided is a laser beam butt welding method in which, after cut surfaces of two steel plates each having a plate thickness t of 0.1 to 3.0 mm are brought into contact and butted, a filler is supplied to the butted section, and the butted section is irradiated with a laser beam to melt the filler and the steel plates, thereby welding the two steel plates. The cut surfaces of the two steel plates are laser cut so as to have inclination angles θ that are larger than 20° and equal to or smaller than 60° in the same direction with respect to the vertical planes of the surfaces of the steel plates a width a of 3.0 mm or less in the longitudinal direction of the steel plates. Then, the cut surfaces of the two steel plates are butted and welded in a scarf-joint state, thereby making it possible to obtain a high-quality butt weld joint even in thin steel plates having a thin plate thickness and a wide width.
