Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a laser oscillation element that uses a cholesteric liquid crystal layer and is capable of laser oscillation even when the intensity of excitation light is low. Provided is a laser oscillation element comprising a cholesteric liquid crystal layer formed by aligning liquid crystal compounds in a cholesteric manner, wherein in a cross-section of the cholesteric liquid crystal layer observed with a scanning electron microscope, a bright part and a dark part that are derived from the cholesteric liquid crystal layer are inclined with respect to the principal surface of the cholesteric liquid crystal layer, the cholesteric liquid crystal layer contains pigment that emits light by being excited, and the light emission wavelength band of the pigment and the selected reflection wavelength band of the cholesteric liquid crystal layer at least partially overlap each other.
