Abstract:
Provided is a lathe that enables an increase in the lifespan of a guide used for cutting a workpiece. A lathe 1 is provided with: a headstock 10 comprising a main spindle 11 for holding a workpiece W0; a tool rest 20 that holds a tool T0 for cutting the workpiece W0; a first drive part U1 that moves the headstock 10 in a driving direction having a prescribed orientation; a second drive part U2 that moves the tool rest 20 in the driving direction; and a control unit U3 that oscillates the relative positional relationship of the headstock 10 and the tool rest 20 in the driving direction during the relative cutting feed of the headstock 10 and the tool rest 20 in the driving direction.
