Abstract:
The present invention provides a lathe with which the cycle time of workpiece processing can be reduced. A lathe 1 is provided with: a first spindle (12) capable of rotating about a spindle center line AX1 while grasping a workpiece W0; a second spindle (22) capable of rotating about the spindle center line AX1 while facing the first spindle (12) and grasping the workpiece W0; a tool rest 31 on which a cutting-off tool T1 for cutting off the workpiece W0 grasped by both the spindles (12, 22) is provided; and a control unit U1 which controls the rotations of both the spindles (12, 22) and the relative movements for cutting off the workpiece W0 of both the spindles (12, 22) and the tool rest 31. After rotating both the spindles (12, 22) grasping the workpiece W0 in synchronization with each other, the control unit U1 varies the rotation speed V1 of the first spindle (12), detects the rotation speed V2 of the second spindle (22), and determines that the cutting off of the workpiece W0 is normal if the variation (ΔV2) of the detected rotation speed V2 falls within a predetermined range.
