Abstract:
A light diffusing member is provided with: a base material having light permeability and birefringence; a plurality of wavelength control layers formed on one surface of the base material; a light diffusing part formed in a region outside of the region in which the wavelength control layer is formed on the one surface of the base material; and a high birefringence base material having a phase difference larger than the base material. The light diffusing part has a light exit end surface in contact with the base material and a light incidence end surface facing the light exit end surface and having a surface area larger than the surface area of the light exit end surface. The height from the light incidence end surface to the light exit end surface is greater than the thickness of the wavelength control layer. The transmission spectrum of the high birefringence base material when sandwiched with polarizing plates has at least one spectral peak and valley for each of a first wavelength region corresponding to red light, a second wavelength region corresponding to green light, and a third wavelength region corresponding to blue light.
