Disclosed is a polarizing plate which has sufficient mechanical strength and is provided with a light-diffusing function by comprising a light diffusion layer. The polarizing plate enables display with good image quality when incorporated in a liquid crystal display device. Also disclosed is a liquid crystal display device which uses the polarizing plate. A light-diffusing polarizing plate (100) as one embodiment of the present invention is obtained by sequentially laminating, in the following order, a protective film (109), a polarizing film (101), a protective film (110), and a light diffusion film (102) that is obtained by laminating a base film (105) and a light diffusion layer (106). The total haze of the light-diffusing polarizing plate (100) is 20-85% (inclusive), and the internal haze of the light-diffusing polarizing plate (100) is 20-85% (inclusive). At least one of the protective film (109), the protective film (110) or the base film (105) is a light-diffusing agent-containing film that contains a light-diffusing agent and has a total haze of 10-80% (inclusive). A liquid crystal display device as one embodiment of the present invention uses the light-diffusing polarizing plate (100).
