Provided are a light emitting element, a manufacturing method thereof, and a display device comprising the light emitting element. A light emitting element has a shape extending in one direction and comprises: a first semiconductor layer; a second semiconductor layer; an active layer disposed between the first semiconductor layer and the second semiconductor layer; a first electrode layer disposed on the other surface opposite to one surface of the first semiconductor layer, the one surface being oriented toward the active layer; a second electrode layer disposed on the other surface opposite to one surface of the second semiconductor layer, the one surface being oriented toward the active layer; and an insulating film surrounding the lateral surface of the active layer and at least a part of the lateral surfaces of the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer, wherein the insulating film includes a first region and a second region, and the thickness of the first region surrounding the lateral surface of the active layer is larger than the thickness of the second region surrounding the lateral surface of the first electrode layer.
