A light-emitting element 10 comprises a first electrode (D1) and a second electrode (D2), and a quantum dot layer (QL) disposed between the first electrode and the second electrode and including first quantum dots (Q1). The quantum dot layer (QL) includes a space (SP) extending through the quantum dot layer in the thickness direction (TD) and having no first quantum dots therein. In the space (SP), second quantum dots (Q2) having a particle diameter smaller than that of the first quantum dots (Q1) are disposed.
