Abstract:
This light shielding structure of an optical circuit suppresses stray light by using a portion of a structure of a light reception element itself in the light reception element that requires a countermeasure against the stray light. A stepped electrode (8) that covers an upper surface and a side surface of a first semiconductor layer (4) constituting a light absorption part of the light reception element is formed at a height substantially equal to that of an optical waveguide (3) in an optical circuit (1), and the optical absorption part of the light reception element is shielded from stray light (12) by a wall-shaped or column-shaped wiring electrode (9) extending substantially perpendicular to the surface layer of the optical circuit (1). The light shielding structure of the present invention uses a partial configuration of the light reception element, is formed integrally with the light reception element, and has an inventive aspect of the light reception element. The wiring electrode (9) having a light shielding function may be configured to extend from the surface layer of the optical circuit (1) to the inside of a substrate (2) beyond the lower surface of the first semiconductor layer (4). Furthermore, the wiring electrode (9) may be continuously formed from the first layer (4) to the surface of the optical circuit (1).
