Abstract:
Provided are: a liquid crystal alignment film that can be produced via a step for firing after irradiation with light, wherein the liquid crystal alignment film has good liquid crystal alignment properties and variation of liquid crystal alignment properties (non-uniformity) in a surface of the liquid crystal alignment film is suppressed; a liquid crystal alignment agent for obtaining the liquid crystal alignment film; and a liquid crystal display element using the liquid crystal alignment film. The liquid crystal alignment agent is characterized by containing at least one polymer (A) selected from the group consisting of: a polyimide precursor obtained using a tetracarboxylic acid derivative component and a diamine component including a diamine represented by formula (1); and a polyimide that is an imide compound of the polyimide precursor. Formula (1) (in formula (1), X1 represents a tetravalent organic group represented by formula (g), and Ar represents a C7-40 bivalent organic group having a fused ring in the molecular main chain.) Formula (g) (R1 to R4 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a C1-6 alkyl group, a C2-6 alkenyl group, a C2-6 alkynyl group, a C1-6 monovalent organic group containing a fluorine atom, or a phenyl group. Either R1 to R4 are all hydrogen atoms, or at least one of R1 to R4 represents a group, among the stipulated groups, other than a hydrogen atom.)
