Abstract:
Provided is a liquid crystal alignment film with which the in-plane contrast in a low irradiance region is stable and which has a surface with smaller roughness. This liquid crystal alignment agent contains a component (A) and a component (B). The component (A): a polyimide (A) having a repeating unit (a1) represented by formula (1), a repeating unit (a2) represented by formula (2), and at least one imidized structural unit of the repeating unit (a1) and repeating unit (a2), wherein the total amount of the repeating unit (a1) and the imidized structural unit of the repeating unit (a1) is 10 to 40 mol % based on all the repeating units contained in the polyimide (A), and the total amount of the repeating unit (a2) and the imidized structural unit of the repeating unit (a2) is 60 to 90 mol % based on all the repeating units contained in the polyimide (A). The component (B): a polyamic acid (B) which has a repeating unit (b1) represented by formula (5). (In the above formulae, the definition of each symbol is described in the description.)
